Mission Statement

To provide comfortable, affordable apartment living and programming to enhance spiritual, personal and social well-being off all residents.

History

Dickinson Place began its service to senior adults in 1971. The facility was named to honor the Reverend William H. "Bill" Dickinson, former Senior Minister at Highland Park United Methodist Church. It was his goal that Dickinson Place would meet an important community need for affordable low-cost housing for the elderly as well as provide an opportunity for service to church members and other concerned persons in the community. Dickinson Place has always received a high level of support from members of the Highland Park United Methodist Church as well as support from various churches of different denominations.

Who we Serve

Dickinson Place is a facility for persons age 62 years or older or persons who may benefit from the modifications of a barrier-free apartment.

Rents are based on a sliding scale with the criteria that no subsidized resident pays less than 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent and included utilities. The maximum or market rent is $426.00 per month. Rental at less than market rent is subsidized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Section 8 and Section 236 Rental Assistance programs.

Dickinson Place provides a number of planned activities and programs for the benefit and enjoyment of its residents. Both a Resident Council and a full-time Activity Director share in coordinating the residents' group activities, and also work together in developing programs of interest to the residents.
